The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 1, 2008. The theme for this year is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
On Thursday, May 1, 2008, Christians will gather in every town and city in America to pray for our nation, our leaders, and for the salvation of souls worldwide.
"The following prophetic word was given by one of the Church statesmen of our day, Jack Hayford, chancellor of King's College and former senior pastor of Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California. Although the word was delivered August 1, 1980, it is yet one of the clearest trumpet sounds I have ever heard and…needs to be sounded once again, I believe, in this decade:
The Lord God would call all of His redeemed in this land to lift up their eyes and look! Over your nation there are leaden skies, clouds of impending judgment which hang heavy with a rain of fury and indignation which this people have brought upon themselves. As sin has risen as a vapor of evil, now clouds of judgment have formed and shall shortly be precipitated in wrath and destruction, except an intercessor rise to hold back the storm.
And so the Lord calls: O Church, cause your words to rise in prayers of intercession unto deliverance. The skies are dropping lower, skies of lead weighted with judgment, but your entry with prayer can save the day. For the Lord would have you see that your intercession, O Church, rises like pillars, extending through prayer and pressing back the impending judgment, pushing the leaden skies upward and backward. Take your place as pillars of prayer, for I would that there be mercy upon this nation rather than judgment; I would there be healing rather than death!
Cause the word to go forth with understanding that My people need not surrender to the storm which threatens. Did I not deliver Nineveh when repentance came? If you pray ceaselessly until the leaden skies of judgment be lifted by pillars of prayer, then will the light, the glory and the blessing of the Lord flood your land and healing come again. Life up your voices with praise, raising pillars of intercession, and you shall see the deliverance of God, if you will pray as He directs." (Taken from The Prophetic Intercessor by James W. God's Voice Intervenes and Offsets a "Fatal" Heart Attack – Personal testimony by Elder Rod Arnold, a CLU student & Bible teacher at Agape Christian Ministries in Austin, Texas
"I was in Tulsa (500 miles from home) at the Hilton across from ORU on March 23, 2000. I was awakened in the night by a literal voice saying, "You need to go to the hospital." I had thrown up earlier in the evening but did not consider this significant. According to the pastor of the church I grew up in, hearing voices like this was simply the 'bad burrito you ate last night.' "I had recently started attending a church that emphasized listening to dreams and visions so I called the front desk and they called the emergency room. The emergency room person said that there was no reason to come in and the front desk called me back. I told them I would just go back to bed but as I was putting the phone down I heard the voice again. I picked the phone back up and asked the hotel to take me to the hospital. I immediately heard several loud, angry voices around me saying I would look like a fool going to the hospital for an upset stomach and how wasteful and expensive it would be.
"At the hospital, the doctors took my blood pressure and listened to my heart, and then they hooked me up to an EKG. The doctor went off to a corner and talked to other doctors. I was feeling very good by now and expected the doctor to tell me to take some antacid and go back to the hotel.
"What he told me was that I was having (present tense) a heart attack. I was immediately taken to intensive care, put on oxygen and several tests were run. One of the main heart muscles had stopped beating and my heart was only pumping about half as much blood as it should.
"An angioplasty was attempted only to find that there was too much damage to my heart. A temporary pump was placed in the main vein leading back to the heart to keep me going and build up my strength for open heart surgery. The quintuple bypass surgery went so well that there was no need of blood transfusions.
"In July, follow up tests indicated a problem with some of the bypasses. I was scheduled for another angioplasty to correct the bypasses and was told there was a slight chance of having to have another open heart surgery. At church that Sunday the pastor had everyone in the congregation turn to the person next to them and pray for their needs. I shared the heart problem and as my neighbor prayed for me I felt a warmth in my chest.
"Later, in the hospital, I was in an operating room and could see my heart beating on video screens as the surgeon checked out the vessels in my heart. He finally turned to the operating room crew and simply said 'We're done here,' and then he looked down at me and said 'I can hardly tell you have even had a heart attack.' The bypasses were all in good shape, the heart muscles had resumed beating, and my blood flow was back within five percent of normal.
"It is clear to me now after talking to doctors and doing research on my own that if I had not listened to the Voice of God and gone to the hospital, in spite of not feeling sick, I would not have survived that night. The doctors said I had what is called a silent heart attack. It is so named because it has none of the symptoms associated with heart attacks. The person having a silent heart attack simply goes to sleep and does not wake up, never having been diagnosed with any type of heart problem.
"Literature from Austin Heart Hospital says that the diagnosis is usually made during the autopsy, it is most often fatal, and the few that survive will have such a badly damaged heart that they will be confined to a wheelchair. Because I heard and headed the Voice of God, I have led a normal life for the past eight years, marched in parades, and participated in field days."

"Like the Golf Announcers Do…" – Journaling from Pastor Terry
Lord, how important is journaling to my future and my accomplishing of Your purpose and destiny for my life? What do You have to say to me about journaling? And what is a good time for me to journal, i.e., what part of the day? "Terry, it is not the journaling per se that I am interested in, but your obedience. I want you to go back over what I have spoken and put into place a plan to accomplish them, with Me of course, and begin to align your life to what I have said.
"Allow Me to direct your steps. Just as you have felt Me in the last few weeks, guiding and directing, and it has brought such confidence and peace, I will do that and more. Listen to Me as we talk and share about those things, and I will take you deeper. Your journaling will become your life source for fresh bread, for fresh revelation, and for re-fueling. It will be like the coat that stokes the engine…and gets you rolling.
"But be patient; it is one day at a time…I know the times and dates that need to be accomplished, and I know when to move and when to stop. And I say right now, be patient, and wait on Me. You will know the time, and yes, there will be fruit borne that will evidence that I am in the midst. Miracles will be just a part, but I will use you to ignite passion, to fan into flame the dead and dry wood of others, and to re-arrange paradigms that have become twisted and distorted through religion and a lack of proper obedience and alignment to Me…
"Trust Me as I have already said, and I will direct you. As to the time, we will do it first in short segments throughout the day…not just once, but several times…so be ready to sit down and write and to listen…the promptings to hear will come in your belly. You will know I have something to say because of the effervescing in our stomach…let it direct you…and let it confirm in you that it is Me talking.
"Have you noticed your desires changing?"
Yes, Lord, but why? We really haven't worked on anything per se…
"But we have. We have identified things that were only thoughts or questions in the past. Now they have been uncovered, and have been surrendered...Once I have them, then I can do something with them. In the past, you had thoughts, but you didn't know how to surrender them to Me. And so we didn't talk about them.
"Besides, I am placing in you holy desires and holy passion for Me…and the more you respond to that, the more it will grow and your passion will become all-consuming. And you won't have to work at this or that, it will become natural. It will be our flow…and at times you will say, this is too easy…and I will say, yes, that's the way I intended it…
"So don't fight it, or try to complicate it. Just go with it. And flow…throughout the day, when you read, when you pray, when you work around the house, even when you are talking to others…you see, I can speak into your spirit anytime. I am not bound by the constraints of others. And I can speak to your spirit even when you aren't conscious of it...
"Let Me speak, and you listen. And then you say what you just heard…Kind of like the golf announcers do…they just repeat what they saw…you do the same…let the pictures become rich, and full, and life-giving. Don't despise them at all for now. Even if they seem "wacky" or weird or odd.
"You will have to learn how to identify them, but by critiquing them from the start you will only cut off your ability to see them more clearly. Like a baby beginning to talk, experiment with them. Go with it…and see if I don't do more than you've ever imagined. You see how easy this has been? You thought you were going to get just a short word, and here it is, you've filled a page with Me…"
You're amazing, Lord.
"I know… (as you would jest)… But this is how I intended for our relationship to be. But others distorted it, and I am calling you to be restored in it and to restore it for others…Help them see Me. Many don't see. They think they do, but they only see what they understand in their heads. Only what is letter, what is black and white, and they have difficultly seeing anything beyond the words on a page…Just as I showed you the other day, teach others to hear and see…
"And Terry, let's have fun…since your surgery we haven't had the time together we were having. I want to encourage you to not let other things press in and steal that time. It is still of urgent priority for you. Keep on top of this…if not our enemy will rob you of not only your time, but your joy, your strength, your peace, and your productivity. Press in to Me, and remain there…don't perceive this as something you have to 'go in and out of' but rather a dwelling place that we can enjoy together…Be blessed today…I love you…."

Humor Heals – The Christian Barber
There was a barber that thought that he should share his faith with his customers more than he had been doing lately. So the next morning when the sun came up and the barber got up out of bed he said, "Today I am going to witness to the first man that walks through my door."
Soon after he opened his shop the first man came in and said, "I want a shave!" The barber said, "Sure, just sit in the seat and I'll be with you in a moment." The barber went in the back and prayed a quick desperate prayer saying, "God, the first customer came in and I'm going to witness to him.
